Sampoerna Group Officially Sells Sampoerna Agro to AGPA Pte. Ltd. (a subsidiary of POSCO International Corporation)

JAKARTA - Sampoerna Strategic Group (“Sampoerna Group”), through Twinwood Family Holdings Limited (“Twinwood”), today announced the sale of its entire 65.721% shares in PT Sampoerna Agro Tbk (“SGRO”) to AGPA Pte. Ltd. (a subsidiary of POSCO International Corporation) (“POSCO International”).

Sampoerna Group remains committed to contributing to the Indonesian economy through its other business lines, while seeking new opportunities that are in line with current business needs and market trends.

"We are happy to have found a good new home for SGRO, one whom we are confident will take good care of our employees and will provide good prospects and growth opportunities for the business," said Bambang Sulistyo, President Director of Sampoerna Group, in Jakarta, Thursday (20/11).

Bambang explained that the Indonesian palm oil industry has attracted interest from many investors, both domestic and international, and Sampoerna Group is confident that POSCO International is the most suitable owner to continue SGRO’s positive performance trend and to deliver added value for all stakeholders, with its commitment and experience in Indonesia’s palm oil industry.

“We extend our gratitude to everyone involved and to POSCO International, which will help SGRO to flourish and allow us to apply and refocus our resources into existing businesses and other potential sectors in Indonesia.”

POSCO International is a global company from South Korea, part of the POSCO Group. The company operates across various sectors, including trading, energy, steel, and agribusiness.

In Indonesia, POSCO Group is involved in several key ventures, such as PT Krakatau POSCO, an integrated steel company in Cilegon, which was established as a joint venture with PT Krakatau Steel to revitalize the steel industry. As well as in the energy sector in collaboration with Pertamina Hulu Energi North East Java Consortium.

POSCO International’s presence in Indonesia’s palm oil industry began in 2011 with the development of palm plantations in South Papua Province, through PT Bio Inti Agrindo. PT Bio Inti Agrindo currently operates three palm oil mills with a combined production capacity of 210,000 tons of crude palm oil per year. In addition, POSCO International runs a palm oil refinery facility in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons.

According to the first half of 2025 financial report, SGRO recorded an increase in the net profit attributable to owners of the parents, significantly by 236.06% year-on-year during the same period last year. Meanwhile, revenue went up by 45.18% year-on-year.

Indonesia’s palm oil industry is currently significantly increasing in the global market, accounting for around 60% of total global production, with crude palm oil (CPO) exports of about 50% of total global exports.

Bambang reaffirms, Sampoerna Group will continue its contribution to the Indonesian economy through existing business lines, PT Bank Sahabat Sampoerna, Sampoerna Kayoe, PT Sampoerna Land, as well as our philanthropical outreach Putera Sampoerna Foundation.

“Given the potential economic growth of our country, Sampoerna Group will continue to focus on existing business lines and explore promising new opportunities to contribute to Indonesia’s economic growth.
