Jakarta, October 28, 2021 - Indosat Ooredoo (“the Company”) today announced a strong set of financial results for the nine months of the year, ending September 30, 2021.
President Director and CEO of Indosat Ooredoo, Ahmad Al-Neama, said: “The execution of our transformation strategy continues to lead Indosat Ooredoo in sustaining its growth momentum and delivering excellent financial performance. In the nine months of the year, our revenue growth trajectory continued to outperform the industry. Yet again, we delivered strong EBITDA performance, which grew almost twice as fast as revenue. We continue to provide outstanding network performance and digital services to our loyal customers. The growing customer trust has led to a strong customer base growth over the last nine months. We thank our customers and all stakeholders for the continued support to Indosat Ooredoo.”
In the nine months of 2021, Indosat Ooredoo’s total revenue increased by 12.0% year-on-year (YoY) to IDR 23 trillion. Cellular revenue rose by 10.3% YoY to IDR 18.8 trillion. EBITDA increased 22.7% YoY to reach IDR 10.4 trillion in the nine months of the year due to a combination of top-line growth and a continued focus on operational cost efficiencies. These helped deliver EBITDA margin growth of 4.0 ppt YoY, to 45.1%. Indosat Ooredoo also recorded a net profit of IDR 5.8 trillion.
Indosat Ooredoo also recorded 62.3 million happy and engaged customers in the nine months of 2021, an increase of 3.2% YoY. 4G data users grew to 43 million, an increase of 27% YoY. Average Revenue per User (ARPU) increased by 7.9% YoY to IDR 34.2 thousand, driven mainly by robust growth in data traffic which rose 39.2% YoY.
During Q3 2021, Indosat Ooredoo announced the launch of commercial 5G services in Jakarta and Surabaya, following the first launch of 5G in Solo back in June 2021. 5G service is the next step in bringing world-class digital experiences to people in Indonesia, as aligned with Indosat Ooredoo’s commitment to be at the forefront of Indonesia’s 5G revolution.
During the quarter Indosat Ooredoo also continued its 4G network coverage expansion across the country, bringing 4G/LTE services to 124 remote villages in Aceh, Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. The network deployment is part of the company’s commitment to supporting the Government’s program to fulfill 4G coverage throughout Indonesia and deploying 4G/LTE service across 645 remote villages by 2022. In the nine months of 2021, Indosat Ooredoo’s total BTS reached almost 126 thousand with a total of more than 70 thousand 4G BTS.
The success of Indosat Ooredoo’s transformation strategy and its outstanding performance was recognized by several major international business awards during the quarter. Notably, Indosat Ooredoo was named the global ‘Telecommunications Company of the Year’ at this year’s Stevie International Business Awards. At the same time, Ahmad Al-Neama was also awarded the Gold Stevie for the ‘Executive of the Year – Telecommunications’ category in recognition of his strong commitment to good governance, innovation, and employee engagement, welfare, and development.
