New Investment from Austria: PT. South Pacific Viscose Inaugurates Lenzing Center of Excellence

Purwakarta, 23 October 2018  – PT. South Pacific Viscose (PT. SPV), Indonesia’s biggest  producer  of fibers from wood and a subsidiary of the Austrian Lenzing Group, inaugurates today its post trade service and research center facility called “Lenzing Center of Excellence” (LCOE). This research and service center is situated at its main factory premises in Purwakarta. Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs, Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, inaugurated the new facility accompanied by SPV President Director Christian Oberleitner, the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia, Vincent Guérend; Vice Ambassador of Austria to Indonesia, Josko Emrich; Chief Commercial Officer of the Lenzing Group, Robert van de Kerkhof  and Senior Vice President of the Lenzing Group for AMEA, Vineet Singhal.

The Lenzing Center of Excellence was built to strengthen customer intimacy of the company, as this aspect is one of the core pillars of the corporate strategy sCore TEN. In addition, the Lenzing Center of Excellence also has the facilities for small-scale fabrics production (knitting), dyeing and finishing. In providing this technology, Lenzing further increases its effort to jointly conduct research & development on new yarns and fabrics with its partners along the value chain. To further improve product quality, the Lenzing Center of Excellence will also provide laboratory and analytical facilities to conduct trials and analyses of various types of fibers, yarns and fabrics.

Lenzing has a vision to fulfill global needs by building sustainable business that pay attention to the preservation of nature,” said Christian Oberleitner, President Director of PT. South Pacific Viscose.

The opening of the Lenzing Center of Excellence will enable the company to combine various fiber types produced by Lenzing so that it can produce a variety of quality products that can be applied in the manufacture of fabrics and nonwoven products, both traditionally and in more innovative ways.

PT. SPV has been operating in Indonesia for 35 years. Located in Purwakarta, this company produces viscose fibers distributed for global and domestic markets. Until now, the average production from PT. SPV reaches 323,000 tons per annum. With this capacity, PT. South Pacific Viscose is considered to be the biggest manufacturer of fibers in Indonesia.

As per 2017, the domestic textile industry recorded a significant growth of 6 percent, rising to USD 12.4 bn[1].
