Don’t miss the biggest and most established two-wheel championship race in Southeast Asia – only at the Shell Malaysia MotoGP 2018

JAKARTA, 26 JULY 2018 – Calling Indonesian motorsports fans! Don’t miss another thrilling motorsports feast at the biggest two-wheel competition in Southeast Asia, happening this November in Sepang! The MotoGP returns to Malaysia for its penultimate round, when the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix 2018 takes place on 2-4 November 2018. This year’s event, which is the 27th Malaysia MotoGP, is themed #KamiGearKe7, embracing the fans as an invisible boost and source of strength for the riders.

“#KamiGearKe7 is inspired by the concept of the 12th man in football (or other 11-a-side sports). In any sport, the cheers and spirit of support from the fans can be truly uplifting, even as the riders go head-to-head with the best in the world. We are dedicating the campaign to the fans who have tirelessly supported their favourite riders come rain or shine, and have never lost hope regardless of what happens on the track. This year is special for Malaysia as it is the first time we have riders in all three MotoGP categories, but we hope our Indonesian friends will also come to support Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah, the first Southeast Asian rider competing in the MotoGP category,” said Sepang International Circuit Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Razlan Razali, who is in Jakarta today for SIC’s regional tour.

Hafizh was also present on SIC’s tour, participating in fan engagement activities. “I am very happy to have this opportunity to meet my fans here in Jakarta. I want to thank everyone for coming to show their support and for their kind words of encouragement. I hope they will also come over to Malaysia in November to support me at the Malaysia MotoGP. As the first Southeast Asian rider in the MotoGP category, it means a lot to me to know that I have the support of fans from outside Malaysia. All of you are truly my 7th gear as I take on the best riders in the world,” Hafizh said.

“In recent years, the Malaysia MotoGP has attracted record-breaking crowds year after year. In 2017, the total attendance over the 3-day weekend was 166,486, and we’re hoping that with the support of all the fans, we can achieve our target of a 3% growth in the numbers this year. I urge the MotoGP fans in Indonesia to get hold of their preferred ticket soon as tickets have already sold out for some seating areas such as the Marc Marquez Tribune, Main Grandstand and F Grandstand. For those who still wish to sit in the Main Grandstand, they can still opt for the Premier Roving pass or one of the 2018 Desmo Ducati packages. For Hafizh’s fans, they can event opt for the Hafizh Syahrin Tribune package, with special merchandise,” Dato’ Razlan added.

Dato’ Razlan said Malaysia’s location is advantageous to motorsports fans from neighbouring countries, as attending the MotoGP in Sepang is more affordable and convenient, compared to faraway venues. “Indonesia is consistently among the top 5 countries with the most spectators at the Malaysia MotoGP. Last year, the Indonesian fans were the biggest international group, making up 23.81% of the spectators. Looking at the ticket sales this year, the number of Indonesian fans will be topping the chart again and surpassing last year’s numbers. We have already sold 41,881 tickets as of 22 July 2018, 60% more tickets than on the same date in 2017. I would like to thank the Indonesian travel agents for their contribution to this achievement,” said Dato’ Razlan. He shared that the top-selling travel agents included TX Travel, Lily Tour, Allways Tour & Travel, PT Kuala Nanggroe, Rajakarcis GWC, BWB Tour Travel, Raja Tours, Cargloss and PT Ausindo Riau Sejahtera.

This year, Indonesia also has the second largest group of competitors in the Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup 2018 – the MotoGP support race in Asia, with 5 racers. Dato’ Razlan urged the Indonesian motorsports fans to support their boys in Sepang, as their competition is in its final round at the Malaysia MotoGP.

In addition to the action on the track, SIC returns with the Mega MotoGP carnival, offering over 90 booths for visitors to the circuit to explore. They can look forward to displays by motorcycle manufacturers Modenas, BMW, Kawasaki, Benelli, Ducati, Honda and Yamaha, as well as shop for motorcycle and biker accessories, engine lubricants, motorsports merchandise and more. During the race weekend, fan favourite activities such as the public pit lane walk, riders’ autograph session, riders’ fan forum and track stunt show will also be back.
